Oropouche virus infection typically causes acute fever and intense joint pain, particularly in the hands and feet. Other symptoms may include headache, muscle pain, nausea, and vomiting. In some cases, the infection can lead to severe complications such as encephalitis and Guillain-Barré syndrome.

As there is no specific treatment for Oropouche virus infection, preventive measures are crucial. PAHO recommends using insect repellent, wearing protective clothing, and reducing exposure to midges during peak biting hours.
