Meeting Her Husband on the Wedding Day
Misa Bharti, the daughter of former Bihar Chief Minister Lalu Yadav, met her husband, Shailesh Kumar, for the first time on the day of their marriage. In an interview, she revealed that she had blindly trusted her parents' choice. Her father had arranged the marriage with Kumar, a computer engineer from the same caste as the Yadavs.
The Arranged Marriage and Its Outcome
The couple married on December 10, 1999, and have three children—two daughters and one son. Misa Bharti is currently serving her second term as a member of the Rajya Sabha, India's upper house of parliament. Kumar has his own business.
Misa Bharti's Early Life and Career
Misa Bharti was born on May 22, 1976, in Patna, Bihar. She is the second daughter of Lalu Yadav and Rabri Devi, who also served as Bihar Chief Minister. Misa Bharti holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Patna University.
Her Political Journey
Misa Bharti entered politics in 2010 when she was elected to the Bihar Legislative Assembly from the Maner constituency. She was re-elected in 2015. In 2016, she was elected to the Rajya Sabha. She is currently serving as the Chairperson of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Food, Consumer Affairs, and Public Distribution.
